SPACESHIP
"Spaceship" is the new album by the duo The Crowsroads, the fourth chapter in their discography. It contains 10 original tracks written and produced by the brothers Matteo (guitars, vocals) and Andrea Corvaglia (harmonica, vocals) and was officially released in January 2024 by the label Slang Records with distribution by TimeTrack Factory. The pre-production phase saw the two brothers, together with sound engineer Nicola Ragni, delve deeper than ever before into the opportunities offered by home recording, searching for the sound and arrangements that best suited the intimate and often autobiographical nature of the compositions. The quartet recording sessions with Michele “Poncio” Belleri (bass) and Sebastiano Danelli (drums) at the TimeTrack Studios in Bergamo then forged the album’s definitive sound: a rough, “power-acoustic” sound that experiments with the infinite colors of the harmonica (a solo instrument, but also an “orchestra” of rhythms and harmonies), follows the changing arpeggios and strums of acoustic/electric guitar, and benefits from a passionate and cohesive rhythm section. The contribution of Nicola Ragni was fundamental, as he was responsible for the mixes and instrumental contributions; he also handled the recordings, together with Dario Ravelli (also in charge of mastering). Three singles were released from the album: “Last Glimpse Of You”, “The Showdown” and “Hot Blood/Weak Knees”, accompanied by videos by Michele Cataneo and Anita Seferi. The record project was also accompanied by an exclusive “making of” documentary, “A journey on a Spaceship”, produced by Nicola Belleri (POV Films).
Why “Spaceship”? (Liner notes)
This album has little to do with science fiction. It talks about the most “earthly” things you could imagine: growing up in a complex world, coming to terms with your dreams and anxieties, diving into a new daily life of difficult choices and responsibilities. But somehow, while we were writing these songs, some of our childhood games and fantasies about space and astronauts resurfaced in our memories, and the “spaceship” became a perfect symbol for our journey toward an unknown future, a journey that holds both the thrill of discovery and the awareness that there will be no return. So make yourselves comfortable on board, the spaceship is taking off. And there are plenty of couches.
